Why Do Birth Parents Choose Adoption?

Many families find themselves curious about birth parents. Families often wonder why the birth parents are choosing to place their baby for adoption and others wonder what, if any, feelings they have towards their unborn child.

Birth parents choose adoption for many reasons, however the overlying cause is because they truly love their child. It is out of this love that they choose adoption for their child – they want their child to grow up in a stable family environment, with parents that can financially and emotionally provide for them. Birth parents choose adoption out of love – not because they didn’t love their child or didn’t want them.

Thousands of women face unplanned pregnancies each year. There is no one profile of a birth mother. Our agency has worked with college students, professionals, married couples and couples who are already parenting children at home. Each woman – no matter what her social or economic background was – chose adoption because they loved their child. It takes great courage for a birth parent to place their child for adoption, and great love.

It is important that waiting families do not assume a birth parent is placing their child for adoption because they don’t love the child, or “want” the child. Rather, the opposite is true – birth parents choose adoption because they love the child, and they are searching for someone who will love their child as much as they do.
