Types of Adoption

No two adoptions look the same, and there are many factors that can play a role into how your adoption journey is shaped; the kind of child you want to adopt, where you choose to adopt your child, and the structure of your family will all have an effect on the process.

There are many ways a family can grow through adoption, the three most common being domestic infant adoption, foster care adoption, and international adoption. Each of these types has its own set of advantages, disadvantages, and necessary steps to complete the process.

Adoption can also be categorized by family type: single parents, same-sex couples, stepparents, and grandparents can all grow their family through adoption. The following links describes each type of adoption to help you determine which is right for your family.
