A good t-shirt is always the easy go-to option for displaying your message, fundraising for your cause, or crushing the casual fashion of the day. In the world of adoption, shirts are one of the most-used ideas to support a family’s adoption announcement or to raise funds for a family’s financial need to adopt. Adoption t-shirts offer a great opportunity for these families for a few reasons: Everyone wears t-shirts, and their cost is relatively inexpensive to manufacture and to purchase. An adoption shirt fundraiser will also not take as much time and effort as other fundraising ideas may require.
My husband and I, while on our adoption journey, have been able to sell two different adoption t-shirts over the past year. The first shirt’s main purpose was to announce our decision to adopt to our family and friends. We assumed those closest to us would order one of these t-shirts as encouragement for the days that lie ahead in this story of adoption. The first t-shirt was so popular we sold about 300 short-sleeve shirts. A few months later, we also made an order for the same image to be put on long-sleeve shirts and hoodies. When we were matched for a potential adoption (and later experienced an adoption disruption), we sold a different shirt to fundraise some of the remaining expense for the adoption. This short-sleeve shirt also sold close to 300.
For both adoption shirts we sold, my husband and I designed each image for the front of the shirt. My husband is talented in taking my idea and turning it into a creative and beautiful design. We chose to make them personal to our story, and we created unique designs. Seeing people around our town or in pictures on social media sporting each of our shirts has reminded us of the backing we have received from friends far and wide to assist in bringing our new baby home.
If an adoption t-shirt is an option that you would like to pursue on your journey to adopt or just to show support for a cause that you love, see some of the options or ideas below to snag your own adoption tee.
If you’re looking to purchase adoption apparel or home items to share your love for this journey or to give as a gift to someone you know in the process, you may be able to find some cute options for children and adults on Etsy. Prices are pretty standard, and items do not look generic or mass-produced. Sometimes you can find a way to personalize an item on this website, also.
This website is another place where you will be able to find some unique items to purchase, including adoption tees and other apparel, jewelry, home items, and baby gear. The adoption t-shirts on this website range from simple to intricate designs and offers a variety of selections for every member of the adoption family.
If you are looking to create your own t-shirt for fundraising efforts as you adopt, Bonfire allows you to do this with little effort on your part. You must create an account with Bonfire in order to begin the process. Once you have an account, you can begin to create an image for the shirt you wish to sell. Bonfire allows you to set the price you would like to sell the adoption t-shirt for in order to determine how much profit you will earn. You will also set a number of days that your t-shirt will be available for purchase before printing begins. This method of selling adoption fundraiser t-shirts puts the majority of the effort on Bonfire once your design is set and your account is active.
Making your own adoption tees does not mean you have to buy the fabric, sew your own shirts and somehow fasten an image to the front of your masterpiece in order to sell it to those who would be willing to wear your shirt (or spend money on it). This is the most cost-effective way when fundraising to retain the most funds without paying anything to the middle man. My husband and I found a local screen printing business to help us in our endeavor. Most business owners will make you a good deal on product and services when you are fundraising for such a good cause. Tell them your adoption t-shirt ideas and see if they can offer a discount on the price of the shirt or the work to screen print the image. Usually, a screen printing company will have some type of designer who works for them if you need help coming up with the logo. They will also allow you to bring your own artwork to them if you would like to design it yourself. We were able to order adoption t-shirts in any sizes we needed, from infant to adult sizes, whereas some websites will limit the range of sizes you are able to order. When you place your order with a screen printing business, you will have to pick up the entire order and distribute or ship them yourself. This requires a bit more work on your part, but to us it was worth it to be able to keep our cost for the shirt down and our revenue up. We really enjoyed the process of creating our own shirts and seeing people’s reactions when we got to hand deliver to them and express our appreciation for their support.
