The state has prohibited same-sex adoption since 2000. After four couples sued for their adoption rights last year, the judge banned Mississippi from enforcing the law, citing the Supreme Court ruling in favor of same-sex marriage. The couples who sued, as well as all other same-sex Mississippi couples, will be able to legally pursue adoptions for their families. The new ruling marks the legalization of same-sex adoption in all 50 states.
