Countries for International Adoption

While all international adoptions involve some similar steps, the process can vary greatly from country to country. There are two primary factors that dictate a country’s adoption process:

  • Involvement in the Hague Convention – The Hague Convention is an international treaty that many countries have signed and that contains guidelines to the adoption process. All countries involved in the Convention must comply with these guidelines.
  • The country’s laws – In addition to Hague requirements, every country has different regulations regarding who may adopt and how the process must take place.

In this section, you can learn about how to adopt in some of the more common countries for international adoption.
